So… I just joined the National Secular Society here in the UK.
Their (our!) principles involve two basic propositions. The first is the strict separation of the state from religious institutions. The second is that people of different religions and beliefs are equal before the law.
That includes people who hold no religious beliefs (ie. me). And as my first (new member) act, I followed their link to the UK Home Office website where they are holding a consultation on the Government’s proposals to enable same-sex couples to have a civil marriage (they can at present have a civil partnership). LINK!
It also will allow couples, where one has changed sex, to remain in their civil marriage as currently they would have to separate - by law. Which seems ridiculous if they both want to stay together
You may wonder why a single straight man would care to fill in this online consultation… well because there are so very many other single straight men who think that they have the (god given) right to tell someone else who they can and can not love. I am here to balance out the single straight man equation.
So I’ve had my hair cut, back to a spikey faux hawk.
Turns out, long hair just isn’t practical when you cycle a lot :-/
What do you think?
